Here is Cate at age three. She has the typical grade 3 "peanut" ear. We called it her baby ear. We were exceptionally transparent about her baby ear. When she was a baby & I introduced her to people, I promptly said, "By the way - Cate was born with a baby ear. Isn't it so cute? Feel free to check it out or ask me any questions about it. When she's 7, she is going to get a big ear!"
Letting kids and parents know up front about Cate's baby ear made the situation not "weird" - it was simply a tiny part of who she was. I cannot stress enough how much this approach resulted in having so much confidence. This is how we handled it all her life. She was never ashamed or embarrassed because it was a fact of life.
